Windows 7

2 days ago my Windows XP SP3 was attacked by some virus that I can’t recall the name. I think it was Joolie.A.Virus or something. The creator was nice enough to put his girlfriends name in the virus and if that was not enough, he even added .A.Virus as a surname just in case we didn’t know it was a virus. I have not had a virus attack in 5 years I think. I caught the virus while trying out a few Knight Online private servers. Most private server executables are flagged some sort of virus or trojan by antivirus programs.

My choice of antivirus is the ESET Smart Security 4 or ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4. ESS comes with a firewall and antivirus where else the NOD32 comes with everything except the firewall. I love ESET cause I play a lot of games and do a lot of work on the computer and ESET performs its duties quietly without destroying my computers performance. I’m sure some of you have used AVG or Norton or some other crap and when it starts scanning the computer becomes so slow its unusable. Anyway this entry is not about ESET so lets move on to Windows 7.

After racing to save my files while Joolie ran amok infecting every .exe it could find. I conceded that perhaps a reformat would be the best option. It has been some time since I reformatted my pc and it was loaded with games and shit that I rarely or don’t use at all.

After reformatting my Windows XP SP3 I went to look for my hardware drivers. Since I needed to download my drivers I should download my network card driver first right? Wrong! I’m such a dumb fuck. How am I suppose to get on the Internet if my network card isn’t installed? Anyway I used my laptop and went to the Asus website to get my driver. Then I saw this.

Damn! If Windows 7 is out I want it! I remembered seeing a screenshot of it once and it looked hot. Time to download it from ThePirateBay buy it from a Microsoft reseller. I Googled a bit to see if Windows 7 was out. Last I heard it was still beta and due to be released end of this year or early next year. After Googling and reading a few sites I finally came to this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx

Basically the Windows 7 Release Candidate is out! If you are interested in getting Windows 7 you should visit that link because in a nutshell this is what they:

Downloads will be available until August 20, 2009. After that, you can still install the RC and you can get a product key if you need one.

Windows 7 RC is free for download until that said date and you can use it until June 1, 2010. I’m not going to repeat everything that’s on that page. You should just read it. On that page you can get the serial number to install Windows 7. You have to login to get your serial number. The login is the same login you use for your MSN Messenger.

After reading all that crap and getting your serial number, you will be brought to a download link which will install for you some download manager so you can resume your download if it gets interrupted. Windows 7 is a hell of a big file, it’s about 3 gigabytes. Before you start downloading you should read this entry on tweaking your network card to allocate more buffer for better performance. Click here.

Now I don’t recommend you download using the install download manager cause it was crap, to me anyways. I used Internet Download Manager. You can get it here. If you have IDM or some other good download managers, you can copy and paste the link below into your download manager and start downloading Windows 7 Release Candidate x64. You have to copy and paste the link as a new download in your download manager. Just copying and pasting it in your web browser will not start your download. You have been warned. The link is for the 64bit version of Windows 7. If you have a 32bit CPU it will not install. So make sure you have a 64bit CPU.

I spent the last 2 days installing softwares on my Windows 7 and updating security updates and stuff. So far I’ve not had any problems with Windows 7. However I’m still not entirely impressed with it just yet. My computer specs running Windows 7:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
RAM: Kingston HyperX 2 X 2GB 1066MHz (4GB)
Mobo: Asus P5Q-E
Graphic Card: ATI X800 (It’s old, I didn’t get a new one)
Hard Disk: Western Digital 200GB SATA as system drive (Old hard disk)
Slaves: 1TB SATA Seagate X 3 units

I’m not going to do any performance tests or comparisons with other operating systems because there are tons out there on the world wide web. Instead I’m going to post some screen shots of Windows 7. Yea, I know there are tons out there as well. If you don’t want to see my screenies then fuck you!

Before that, the softwares that I have installed without trouble and running fine.

Below is a screenshot of my desktop
